Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for every election. When you arrive at your polling place, give your name and address to the election official seated at the check-in table. They will find your name in the poll book and issue you a ballot. A photo ID is now required to vote. For Voter Photo ID Law information and how to get a free State ID Card for voting, visit Bring It to the Ballot.

If you have not yet registered, you may do so at the polls. If you have moved since the last time you voted or your name has changed, you will need to re-register with the correct information. Please bring the appropriate Proof of Residence to verify your current address. All Proof of Residence documents must include your current name and current residential address.

The Village of Somerset uses an optical scan voting machine, called a DS200, to scan paper ballots and tabulate votes. To vote for the candidate of your choice, fill in the oval next to the name. To vote for or against a referendum question, complete the oval to the right of “Yes” or “No.” To vote for a write-in candidate, write the person’s name on the line provided and complete the oval next to the name.

New residents, residents who have moved or changed their name must register. Electors must be registered on or before Election Day to vote. Go to My Vote Wisconsin to get registered or check your registration.

Neither your local clerk’s office nor the Wisconsin Elections Commission will not text you with voter registration alerts, so you may ignore these kinds of text messages. Unofficial websites seeking personal information to check your voter registration status or register you to vote should be avoided. You can securely register, check your registration status, and find trusted information on the MyVote Wisconsin website at https://myvote.wi.gov. You can also register in person at the In-Person Absentee Voting location or at your polling place on Election Day.

Getting on the ballot Throughout Wisconsin, nomination papers and other required forms are the primary way for candidates to get their name on the ballot when seeking elected office. Following correct procedure when obtaining and submitting nomination paper signatures is crucial to ensure ballot placement for a candidate. The first day to circulate nomination papers is December 1. Nomination papers are due by 5 pm on the first Tuesday in January (if this day lands on a holiday, they are due the next business day).

Nomination Papers:

Incumbants not seeking reelection must file the Notification of Non-Candidacy (pdf) with the Village Clerk on the 2nd Friday preceding the deadline for nomination papers by 5:00 pm. (December 26, 2025). Failure to notify along with a failure to file nomination papers by the deadline will extend nomination paper deadline 72 hours for that office.
